After suffering a 1–2 last-minute defeat to Germany, Ghana extended their losing streak to five matches in friendlies. Following this run, the Ghana Football Association announced the dismissal of head coach Otto Addo. Despite having previously led the team to World Cup qualification, he failed to guide Ghana to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
After the match, Addo gave an interview to German TV channel Sportchau, where he spoke positively about the federation’s management and shared his outlook on the World Cup—only to be dismissed shortly afterward.
When asked about the criticism he faced following the team’s losing streak across competitions, Addo responded:
“Of course, when you lose, there will be criticism—that’s completely normal. As a coach, that’s part of the job.
Our federation’s management is very professional and usually remains calm. Even when we failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, they kept their composure. I think the players’ performance today also showed that maintaining continuity is the right path.
We have qualified for the World Cup, and it was a very difficult process. The boys did a great job. Of course, I still need to try a few things—we have many new players, and several are injured, so we must experiment. Not every attempt works immediately, and there will be setbacks, but I believe we are moving in the right direction.”

The interviewer then asked about his expectations for the upcoming World Cup, to which Addo replied:
“We have to take it step by step. First, we need to get through the group stage. The opening match against Panama is crucial—it’s the top priority, and we must win it.
Once you reach the knockout stage, you need a bit of luck, and then you take it one game at a time.”
