According to AS, Marcus Rashford is willing to take a pay cut in order to stay at FC Barcelona.
In his first season at Barça, Rashford did not become an undisputed starter. He received plenty of playing time largely due to injuries suffered by Raphinha; under normal circumstances, those opportunities might not have come his way. Rashford made the most of them. Although at times he appeared to play more individually and occasionally struggled to fully integrate into the team’s overall system, he still ended the season with very impressive numbers: 14 goals and 14 assists.
Rashford has adapted well in the dressing room and feels comfortable and happy in the city. In addition, he has earned the trust of Hansi Flick. The German coach has praised him on several occasions and, while he has not made an explicit statement yet, Flick hopes to keep Rashford next season if the sporting department cannot secure a better alternative.
After assessing the transfer market, Deco believes that keeping the England forward is currently the best option. Elite wingers are extremely expensive, and Barça cannot afford them because the club’s major investment will be focused on signing a new first-choice No. 9. Meanwhile, promising young players such as Abde Ezzalzouli, Víctor Muñoz, and Andreas Schjelderup have not matched Rashford’s numbers or shown the same level of consistency.
Rashford had already stated during the club’s La Liga title celebrations that he hoped to continue wearing the Barça shirt. Now, he has gone beyond words and taken action by admitting he is willing to reduce his high salary in order to remain at the club. A long-term contract could also help spread out his wages financially. Barça highly appreciates this gesture and is working hard to keep him.
The possibility of triggering the €30 million buyout clause is still on the table, but for now Barça would prefer to negotiate another loan deal with Manchester United. However, United currently appear reluctant to do so and instead want to sell Rashford permanently. After his performances this season, the English club expects to receive multiple offers worth more than €30 million for the forward.
