FC Bayern Munich Fined €80,000 by German Football Association for Repeated Kick-Off Delays in 2025/26 Season

According to Bild, FC Bayern Munich have been fined a total of €80,000 by the German Football Association for repeatedly delaying kick-offs last season.

Shortly after winning the German Cup last Saturday, Bayern received two additional fines from the DFB worth €40,000 and €25,000 respectively. The penalties were not related to fireworks from Bayern fans during the cup final, but instead concerned two rather unusual disciplinary offences.

In rulings published by the DFB Sports Court on Tuesday, the club was specifically cited for “failing to appear on time for professional league matches.”

On February 21, Bayern, managed by Vincent Kompany, were late ahead of their home league match against Eintracht Frankfurt. The team failed to report on time for the mandatory kit inspection, causing the process to begin 200 seconds later than scheduled. As a result, kick-off was delayed by 150 seconds, leading to a €40,000 fine.

Then on March 21, Bayern players including Michael Olise were again late for the kit inspection before their 4-0 Bundesliga win over Union Berlin. That delay pushed kick-off back by 75 seconds, resulting in another €25,000 fine.

According to the DFB ruling, Bayern had already committed three previous delays earlier in the season. The first two incidents resulted only in warnings, while the third led to a €15,000 fine. In total, Bayern caused five kick-off delays during the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign, accumulating €80,000 in fines.

The DFB places great importance on matches starting at the scheduled time, which is why it introduced specific punishment guidelines for delays in 2023. The fines increase depending on both the length of the delay and the number of previous offences.

If the delay is between 30 and 120 seconds, the first two offences only receive warnings. Starting from the third offence in a single season, clubs are fined €15,000, with each additional offence increasing the penalty by €5,000. Therefore, the fourth offence in that category already carries a €20,000 fine.

If the kick-off delay exceeds 120 seconds, the punishment becomes even harsher. In that category, the first offence already results in a €10,000 fine, and every repeated offence adds another €10,000. By the fifth offence of the same type, a club would be required to pay €50,000.

Bild also revealed that to avoid delays, every Bundesliga club receives a so-called “countdown schedule” before each match. The document outlines, down to the exact second, when and where kit inspections must take place, when they begin and end, and when players must enter the pitch. Clubs are expected to follow the timetable strictly — otherwise they risk paying the price, as Bayern have now experienced.
