According to RMC, the French national team is making its final logistical preparations before heading to the United States for the 2026 World Cup.

The squad arrived in northern France at midday today, drawing significant attention in downtown Lille. Les Bleus are scheduled to face Northern Ireland tomorrow. In a departure from their usual routine, the players spent extra time signing autographs for about 30 fans gathered outside their hotel. Afterward, the team headed to the Pierre-Mauroy Stadium for the mandatory pre-match press conference and final training session. In a rare occurrence, Philippe Diallo, the president of the French Football Federation (FFF), was absent from the training session.
Post-Match Plans and the Journey to Boston
Behind the scenes, the backroom staff is putting the finishing touches on all logistical arrangements for Wednesday's departure. Following the match in Lille, the players will be granted free time to spend one last moment with family or friends. Meanwhile, the staff will return to Clairefontaine that same evening via the A1 motorway. The entire squad will reconvene on Wednesday to board their highly anticipated flight to Boston.
The decision to fly to the US on June 10 was highly calculated. In recent days, nations like Ivory Coast and Brazil have already begun arriving in their respective host countries. France locked in this specific date based on an analysis showing that players can adapt to 1 hour of time difference per day. With their opening match against Senegal scheduled for 6 June 16, Didier Deschamps’ men will have exactly enough time to adjust to the 6-hour time difference on the US East Coast.
Alexandre Marles, former Paris Saint-Germain fitness coach, confirmed:
"They will adapt to the jet lag gradually. Arriving at least six days before the first match allows them to adjust at a rate of one hour per day, which is precisely the time needed to get into peak condition. After a week, they will be fully in rhythm. Furthermore, most matches are scheduled between 15:00 and 17:00, which is ideal—neither too early nor too late—making it a rather favorable timeslot for the French team."
Another significant factor for this departure date is financial: it allows the FFF to save on several nights of accommodation at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston. Given the current tight economic environment facing the federation, this choice is highly timely.
Weather Advantages and Heat Management
Upon arriving in Boston, the team will begin acclimatizing to the East Coast climate. The coaching staff's choice of the Massachusetts city was no accident, as its weather is milder compared to New York or Philadelphia.
"The French team is in a pretty good situation," Marles explained. "It can get hot in these areas, but the humidity is relatively low, and it tends to be quite windy. France will benefit from very decent weather conditions to prepare and perform. While it will be warm, it doesn't compare to the challenges faced by teams heading to Dallas, Miami, Houston, or Kansas City. Those places experience high temperatures, afternoon humidity levels nearing 70% to 80%, and very little wind, which will be much tougher to handle."
Advanced Recovery Measures
To combat the elements, the FFF and the team have invested in a local cryotherapy room to aid player recovery. This specialized room—similar in size to a standard Turkish bath—has also been installed back at Clairefontaine and will be invaluable throughout the tournament.
To manage the heat on the pitch, players will also utilize the following methods:
Ice towels: Placed around the carotid artery on the neck, a technique frequently seen over the past fortnight at Roland-Garros.
Water cooling: Players are advised to pour water directly over the rest of their bodies.
Hydration monitoring: The team will meticulously monitor hydration levels, utilizing specialized beverages to replenish lost mineral salts.
