Mason Greenwood has officially completed a permanent transfer from Marseille to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, marking the third club of his professional career in as many years. The 24-year-old forward signed a four-year contract after the Istanbul club agreed to pay around €39 million for his services. Greenwood chose Fenerbahçe despite attracting interest from several European clubs, making the move one of the biggest transfers involving the Turkish side this summer.
The England-born striker was also heavily lnked with Atlético Madrid during the transfer window. However, negotiations eventually collapsed, allowing Fenerbahçe to secure the deal. Greenwood's decision was influenced by the club's ambitions and the opportunity to play a key role in their long-term project as they prepare for another attempt to challenge for domestic and European success.
Fenerbahçe are eager to end a lengthy Turkish Super Lig title drought, having last lifted the trophy in 2014. After finishing as runners-up last season, they will begin their UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign next week with hopes of reaching the group stage. Greenwood is expected to strengthen the club's attacking options as they compete on multiple fronts throughout the season.
Greenwood arrives in Turkey following an impressive campaign with Marseille, where he rediscovered his best form by scoring 21 league goals to finish among Ligue 1's top scorers. His resurgence came after a loan spell at Getafe and a difficult departure from Manchester United, where his career was interrupted by off-field legal issues before the charges against him were dropped. Although he has not featured for England since 2020, Greenwood remains eligible to represent Jamaica internationally should he decide to switch his national team allegiance in the future.
