Manchester United are reportedly stepping up their serch for another forward by reviving their interest in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta. After already completing three signings during the summer transfer window, the Red Devils are still looking to strengthen key areas of the squad, with a proven goalscorer remaining one of their top priorities ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Mateta has been on United's radar for some time thanks to his impressive performances over the past two seasons. The French striker has established himself as one of Crystal Palace's most reliable attacking players, playing a crucial role in the club's success, including their UEFA Conference League triumph. At 29 years old, he is viewed as an experienced forward capable of making an immediate impact at Old Trafford.
One of the biggest attractions for Manchester United is the potential transfer fee. With Mateta's contract running until 2027 and no agreement reached over an extension, Crystal Palace are reportedly prepared to sell him this summer rather than risk his market value declining. A fee in the region of £25 million is believed to be enough to secure his services, making him an affordable option in the current transfer market.
Mateta is not the only striker under consideration as United continue to explore multiple attacking targets before the transfer window closes. Brighton veteran Danny Welbeck has also emerged as a player of interest, highlighting the club's determination to add experience, depth, and greater firepower to Ruben Amorim's squad for the new season.
