According to Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez’s wedding ceremony had only four witnesses. Ronaldo’s mother and sisters were not present at the event, although they were aware of the marriage.
Recently, Ronaldo and Georgina quietly completed their wedding ceremony in Cascais. The marriage registration documents obtained by Jornal de Notícias have revealed more details about the private civil wedding held in Cascais.
The wedding took place on Tuesday, August 11, at the couple’s private residence in Cascais, exactly one year after their engagement. The ceremony began at 1:30 p.m. and was officiated by civil registrar Maria, who travelled from Porto to Cascais specifically to complete the marriage registration process.
The couple’s five children were all present at the ceremony, but they were not the only attendees. The four witnesses were: Miguel Paixão, a close friend Ronaldo met during his youth academy days at Sporting CP; Ivana Rodríguez, Georgina’s younger sister; Spanish jeweller José Rodríguez Sanchís; and his wife Mónica González Martínez.
The documents also confirmed that Ronaldo and Georgina chose a separation of property regime. Their prenuptial agreement — a contract determining the division of assets before marriage — was signed on August 10, the day before the wedding, at a notary office in Lisbon. Under this arrangement, each person retains ownership of all assets acquired before marriage and also maintains ownership of their individual earnings after marriage. Any property purchased jointly by both parties will belong to them together.
The official records also state that the couple’s permanent residence is in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and that neither changed their surname after marriage. The marriage registration was added to Ronaldo’s birth record at the Civil Registry Office in Funchal on the same day.
Other members of Ronaldo’s family did not attend the ceremony. His mother, Dolores, as well as his siblings, did not travel to Cascais for the private wedding, which was held away from public attention.
Despite their absence, Ronaldo’s mother and sister still sent their congratulations through social media, showing that there was no conflict between the two sides. After Ronaldo and Georgina shared photos of their wedding rings online, his mother and sister both liked the post with heart reactions. The following day, his sister Katia returned from Madeira and visited Ronaldo’s residence in Cascais.
The day after exchanging their wedding vows, the newlyweds returned to Saudi Arabia with their children. Ronaldo will continue preparing for the new season with Al Nassr, while the couple’s relationship has now reached its 10-year milestone since they first met.
The absence of Ronaldo’s family members from the wedding was discussed by Portuguese TVI presenter Cristina Ferreira on her programme. Speaking about Ronaldo’s mother and relatives not attending, she suggested they may have only received the information shortly before the ceremony began.
"Even if they knew, they may have only found out 30 seconds beforehand,” she said.
After seeing the comments, Ronaldo responded on social media. He commented under a post from the programme:
“Cristina, I’ll give you an exclusive piece of news. This television station knows far too little about what is really going on.”
