Federico Gatti suffered a minor injury in an unusual incident during Juventus’ final preseason friendly at Allianz Juventus Stadium. The defender was caught by a fan who entered the pitch during the match between Juventus’ first team and the club’s Next Gen side. The unexpected collision left Gatti with discomfort around his ankle and forced him to receive treatment.
Juventus subsequently left Gatti out of Thursday’s training session as a precaution. The incident happened after the first half, when supporters began entering the pitch as part of the traditional preseason event. However, the invasion occurred earlier than usual this time, forcing the match to be stopped sooner than expected rather than continuing toward the customary 60 to 70-minute mark.
Gatti was facing away from the incoming supporters and did not have enough time to reach the tunnel before the crowd reached the playing area. One particularly enthusiastic fan collided with the back of the defender and made with his ankle, resulting in the minor injury. Despite the unusual circumstances, Juventus are not believed to be concerned about his condition.
The 28-year-old is still expected to be available for Juventus’ Serie A opener against Frosinone this weekend. Gatti’s absence from training was viewed as a precaution rather than an indication of a serious problem. Andrea Cambiaso, Arkadiusz Milik and Jeff Ekhator also trained separately as they managed minor fitness issues, but Juventus remain hopeful that their squad will be in good shape for the start of the new league campaign.
