Arsenal Complete £51m Ezri Konsa Deal to Reinforce Defence After Saliba Injury

Arsenal have strengthened their defensive options ahead of the 2026/27 season by completing the signing of Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa. The Premier League champions moved quickly to secure the England international as they prepare for another demanding campaign that includes domestic competition and the Champions League.

The transfer comes after William Saliba suffered a serious injury while representing France at the 2026 World Cup. With the influential centre-back expected to spend an extended period on the sidelines, Arsenal faced concerns over their defensive depth. Konsa has now been brought in to provide greater experience, stability and competition at the heart of the defence.

Arsenal are reportedly paying around £51 million for the 28-year-old defender, with the total fee potentially rising to £55 million through a further £4 million in performance-related additions. Konsa is understood to have agreed a long-term contract that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2030, with an option that could extend his stay for another year.

The arrival of Konsa represents Arsenal’s fourth major signing of the summer transfer window. The club had previously added Christos Tzolis, Bruno Guimaraes and Illan Meslier to their squad as they look to build a stronger team capable of competing on multiple fronts during the 2026/27 campaign.
