Kevin Diks Takes on Bigger Role at Borussia Monchengladbach as Vice-Captain

Kevin Diks has taken another major step in his career ahead of the 2026/2027 Bundesliga season after being appointed Borussia Monchengladbach’s new vice-captain. The versatile Indonesian international has earned greater responsibility within the squad and will now support Tim Kleindienst, who remains the club’s main captain.

Diks takes over the role previously held by Nico Elvedi, who left Borussia Monchengladbach after 11 years to join Leeds United. The Swiss defender moved to the Premier League club for a reported €10 million transfer fee and signed a three-year contract. His departure prompted head coach Eugen Polanski to make adjustments to the team’s leadership structure.

The decision to promote Diks reflects the growing importance of the 29-year-old defender within the Gladbach squad. His leadership qualities had already been demonstrated during the 2025/2026 Bundesliga campaign, when he was trusted with the captain’s armband against St. Pauli in Matchday 26. That experience helped establish him as one of the senior figures in the dressing room.

With his promotion, Diks will now have an even greater influence both on and off the pitch. He is expected to work closely with Kleindienst while helping guide his teammates throughout the season. The new leadership structure also includes newcomer Enzo Leopold, who has been added to the team council, underlining Gladbach’s efforts to build a strong leadership group ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.
