According to Dutch media outlet Algemeen Dagblad, Manchester City are in advanced talks with Liverpool and are willing to pay close to €100 million for Cody Gakpo.
Gakpo has reportedly decided to join Manchester City. The 27-year-old could have chosen to remain at Liverpool or move to Tottenham Hotspur, but the Dutch winger wants to complete a major transfer before the transfer window closes.
Manchester City are currently in deep negotiations with Liverpool over Gakpo's transfer. The Premier League champions are reportedly prepared to pay a fee close to €100 million, including bonuses, for the player.
Gakpo must still reach a full agreement with his potential new club over personal terms, with everything needing to be completed before the English transfer window closes on Monday evening.
Gakpo's appearance for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon could well have been his final game for the Reds. Andoni Iraola deployed him on the right wing, where Gakpo provided an assist, while new signing Victor Muñoz started on the left.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are also close to signing left winger Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for around €140 million.
Despite this, Liverpool had not previously asked Gakpo to leave the club.
Liverpool originally signed Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven for a total fee of €50 million, including bonuses.
If Gakpo completes his move to Manchester City in Manchester over the next few days, PSV Eindhoven will also benefit from the blockbuster transfer, receiving at least €5 million.
