Fiorentina have officially announced that they have parted ways with 48-year-old head coach Fabio Grosso. After leading the team to three consecutive defeats at the start of the Serie A season, Grosso has left the Viola. He becomes the first head coach to be sacked in Serie A this season.

The club’s official statement reads:

“ACF Fiorentina announces that Fabio Grosso has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the men’s first team as of today.”

Grosso was born in Rome on November 28, 1977, and began his coaching career with Juventus’ youth academy in 2013.

He took charge of a first-team side for the first time in 2017, when he was appointed head coach of Serie B club Bari. During his managerial career, Grosso also coached Lyon, Frosinone and Sassuolo, among others, and guided teams to promotion from Serie B to Serie A on two occasions.

In June this year, Grosso officially took over as Fiorentina’s first-team head coach. However, Fiorentina have endured a disastrous start to the new Serie A campaign, losing all three of their opening matches. They currently sit bottom of the table with zero points, having conceded nine goals and scored just once.

In their most recent league match, Fiorentina suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Torino.
