The qualification campaign for the 2027 AFC U-20 Asian Cup has officially concluded, with 44 nations competing across eight groups between August 31 and September 6, 2026. Eight group winners secured automatic qualification, while seven of the best runners-up also earned places in the tournament. The final line-up will feature 16 teams, with China already guaranteed a place as the host nation. The tournament will be divided into four groups, setting the stage for another highly competitive edition of Asian youth football.

Indonesia U-20 were among the standout teams during the qualifying campaign after finishing at the top of Group H. Nova Arianto’s side faced strong competition from Australia U-20 and Laos U-20 but produced an impressive performance against Australia, securing a convincing 2-0 victory. That result played a major role in helping the Young Garuda finish first in the group and secure their place in the finals. Their qualification also gives Indonesia another opportunity to compete against the strongest youth teams in Asia.

The other group winners are South Korea, Uzbekistan, North Korea, Tajikistan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Japan. South Korea topped Group A, while Uzbekistan led Group B and North Korea finished first in Group C. Tajikistan emerged as the Group D winner, followed by Saudi Arabia from Group E and Iraq from Group F. Japan completed the list of group winners by taking first place in Group G, while Indonesia secured the final automatic qualification spot as Group H winners.

The remaining seven places went to the best runners-up, with Lebanon leading that ranking ahead of Oman, Iran, Jordan, Thailand, India and Malaysia. These 15 qualified nations will join host China in the 2027 AFC U-20 Asian Cup. The tournament will carry added importance because the four semifinalists are scheduled to qualify for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, giving every team an additional incentive to reach the knockout stages. With a strong mix of established Asian powers and ambitious emerging sides, the competition promises to provide a demanding test for Indonesia’s young generation.
