Como are already reaping the rewards of their decision to keep Martin Baturina despite a €55 million offer from Aston Villa during the summer transfer window. The Croatian midfielder has made an outstanding start to the new season, contributing to five goals across his first four appearances. His rapid development into an influential figure has strengthened Como’s belief that keeping him was the right choice.

Baturina produced his standout performance in Como’s impressive 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League. The 23-year-old was named UEFA’s Player of the Match after scoring and providing an assist in the historic result. He opened the scoring in the 15th minute, becoming the first Como player to score in the Champions League, before setting up Tasos Douvikas for the second goal later in the first half.

The midfielder has started all four of Como’s matches so far this season, including three Serie A fixtures and the Champions League opener.
