AC Milan moved to within two points of Serie A leaders Inter Milan and AS Roma after a convincing 3-0 victory over Lecce, but Ruben Amorim believes his side still have plenty of work to do. The result provided an important response following draws against Juventus and Lazio, as well as a Europa League defeat to Benfica, yet the Milan coach remains cautious about their position near the top of the table.

Milan currently sit fifth in Serie A and have managed to stay within touching distance of the leading teams despite dropping points in recent matches. Amorim believes the gap between his squad and the likes of Inter and Roma is still noticeable, particularly when it comes to consistency and the understanding between players within their respective systems.

The Portuguese coach feels Inter and Roma have benefited from having more time to develop their tactical identity, with their patterns of play appearing more established than Milan’s. At the same time, he believes the Rossoneri have not been rewarded with the number of points their performances have deserved, pointing to the narrow margins in recent games against Juventus and Lazio as examples of opportunities that slipped away.

Amorim sees the victory over Lecce as another step in Milan’s development rather than proof that they have already reached the level of the Serie A leaders. He acknowledges that difficult matches will continue to test his squad, but the team’s ability to remain close to the top despite several dropped points provides encouragement as they work toward greater consistency and a stronger competitive foundation.
