Mitchell Baker etched his name into Indonesian football history after producing a remarkable five-goal performance against Bangladesh in the final Group A match of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. The 19-year-old forward played a major role in Indonesia’s emphatic 9-2 victory at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
Baker found the net five times during the match, scoring in the 11th, 20th, 37th, 42nd, and 90+7th minutes. His extraordinary finishing not only helped Indonesia secure a convincing victory but also placed him among the select group of Indonesian players who have scored at least five goals in a single international match.
The achievement also saw Baker equal a record that had stood for more than five decades. Iswadi Idris previously reached the same milestone when Indonesia defeated Vietnam in 1971, making Baker the latest Garuda player to produce such a prolific performance on the international stage.
Despite Baker’s remarkable display, the national record for the most goals by an Indonesian player in a single international match remains with Soetjipto Soentoro. The legendary forward scored eight times against Singapore during the 1969 Merdeka Games, while Budi Sudarsono and Zaenal Arief also recorded four-goal performances for Indonesia in major international fixtures.
Baker’s breakthrough comes at an important moment for Indonesia, with the national team now preparing for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 final. The Garuda squad are scheduled to face Thailand at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on October 5, with Baker’s newfound confidence and scoring form expected to provide another major attacking threat.
